Egyptian Potatoes – Varieties & Seasons

Egypt produces high-quality potatoes across multiple planting cycles, ensuring extended availability for local and export markets. Below are the main varieties integrated with their typical harvest seasons:

Spunta(Main Export Variety)

Harvest Season: January – March (Winter Crop) and May – July (Summer Crop)

An oval-shaped potato with light yellow flesh and smooth skin. Spunta is the leading Egyptian export variety, valued for its uniform size, good shelf life, and adaptability to European and Gulf markets.

Diamant(Fresh Market & Export)

Harvest Season: January – March and November – December (Nili Crop)

Known for its smooth skin and balanced texture, Diamant is widely accepted in both domestic and international markets.

Cara(Table & Food Service Use)

Harvest Season: May – July (Summer Crop)

Large-sized potatoes with white flesh, suitable for catering, bulk supply, and general table use.

Hermes(Processing Variety)

Harvest Season: January – March

High dry matter content makes Hermes ideal for French fries and processing industries. It performs best during the winter harvest for processing contracts.

Lady Rosetta(Chips & Crisp Industry)

Harvest Season: January – March

Low sugar content and high dry matter make it highly suitable for potato chips manufacturing, especially during the winter export window.

Production Cycles Overview
